The Gulf 12 Hours will feature a dedicated GT Cup class exclusively reserved for Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) cars when the region’s premier GT endurance race takes place at Yas Marina Circuit on 15 December.
This initiative will provide an opportunity for a wider range of drivers to experience the excitement and glamour of the Gulf 12 Hours at Formula 1’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix venue, as well as providing more variety and on-track action for fans.
The new GT Cup class is provisionally limited to a maximum of eight cars after strong demand from Porsche 992 Cup teams, and an initial entry list is almost finalised.
However, once the final GT3 entry list for the 2024 Gulf 12 Hours is confirmed, around the end of September, the possibility of a limited expansion of the GT Cup class will be considered.
Andrea Ficarelli, head of Driving Force Events, promoter of the Gulf 12 Hours, said: “In recent years, endurance races have seen an impressive increase in the participation of Porsche 992 Cup cars. Their reliability and performance have led us to consider the inclusion of a specific class for a select group of teams and drivers of these cars in the Gulf 12 Hours.”
